The Tool Kit Approach
The Health &
Safety Executive recommends that all work activity be
subjected to a methodical risk assessment. Once this is
competed you can decide what tools are available to you
to minimise the risks identified. We have to bar in mind
however that the tools available may be limited by your
companies resources or finance, However this is not an
excuse to do nothing.
We have seen
companies place every employee on a driver training
course. Often this occurs when bad advice has been
offered or a poor risk assessment carried out. We need
to ensure the correct tool is being used to solve
the problem. A diamond tipped circular saw maybe very
expensive and very good at cutting metal but would you
use it to open a tin of baked beans?
